Another, unspoken, resolution for 2007 was to test and add new recipes to my rotation. I vividly remember when my mother came across a new recipe and then we ate it once a week for months. Taco salad with crushed Frito chip. Wilted cabbage soup with link sausages and canned mushrooms. Reuben loaf with swiss cheese and sauercraut inside it - seriously. I don't want to have only six meals I cook. So in the sidebar I am adding a section on what we are eating this week. Keep in mind that two small children live here, and I don't eat meat. I cook it, I just don't eat it, so much of the feedback is really coming from the dad, and sometime, the seven year old, who would be perfectly happy if I made Lo Mein (see below) three times a week.
So far new this week, we have tried:
Pork Loin spare ribs using this recipe . The big one liked them. The dad pointed out that spare ribs are a lot of work to eat and kind of messy, but good. The little one ate noodles and apples.
Chicken piccata from the new Barefoot Contessa book. The big one and the dad liked them. Very lemony. The little one ate noodles and grapes.
Peanut butter and jelly bars, also from Barefoot Contessa.
I can only vouch for the bars. They are quite good with the coffee I am enjoying right now. Tonight we are having lo mein, out of American's Test Kitchen Family Cookbook, and Oyster Sauce chicken, which recipe I got from Rachel Ludwig's blog about a year ago. It has become very popular around here.
Have you tried Rachel Ray's cookbooks? Jenny M. has her vegetarian one and loves it. I think I have every other one; always yummy, usually no really "odd" ingrediants, the kids adore her, fast to cook = winner.
I also love the crock pot.

My little ones are just like your little one. Except it's usually a hot dog or salami or jam sandwich. I'm trying some new recipes this week too. New year = new recipes :D
Happy New Year/New Recipes!
