Happy New year

After a week up north, we are heading to Portland to visit my sister.  Lots of fun shopping to follow!  We have a new computer, so I am unable to access any of my pictures.  Talk to you in the new year.

More trees

Rebecca Sower used some of the same trees we used in our butterfly habitat for a holiday decorations.  We had a few left over!  Hopefully I didn't throw them away.

Butterfly habitat

The big one had to do a project on an endangered or threatened animal.  I strongly encouraged her to pick monarch butterflies, because they were so interesting.  Of course she told her teacher that butterflies really hadn't been her idea and that they were only a little interesting.  Glass half empty, I tell you.  As part of the report, they had to build an ideal zoo habitat for their animal.  She designed it, I found the materials nd we built it together.  Didn't it turn out cool?  The path is cornmeal, because our sandbox is frozen, and the trees are ones from a Christmas village, and we added moss. 

And Mod Podge makes excellent water.

These are Christmas cards for the nursery caregivers at our church from my small group.  They are supposed to be mistletoe, inspired by the felt mistletoe in the most recent Martha Stewart Living.  I am afraid they look like boomerangs.  Or really strange bunnies.

Christmas decorating, Day One

Christmas decorations are finally getting up around here.  I am feeling late, especially when I look around blog-land.  I always count on the Boy Scouts in our neighborhood to provide the wreaths and white pointsettias we need, but this year, no one stopped by, so I had to get my own. 

I am never 100% happy with our front door wreath. 

This is white berries with Wendy Addison glitter snowflake garlands.  They are so lovely, so expensive and so SHORT!  This wreath took two.  This year she seems to have snowflakes and stars.  Maybe last year too.  I saw both at the store and was going to buy some more, but I thought I certainly had bought stars.  I love glitter stars.  But no, I bought snowflakes.  Hmmm.  I see in the picture that there is a weird lack of glitter in the upper right corner.  Maybe a few tiny blue ornaments or some blue ribbon.  Do they make outdoor ribbon in robins egg blue?

To market, to market...

Ever make a trip to Target and wonder what the checkout person must be thinking?  Maybe they totally don't notice, but this is what was in my basket:

Double stick tape - I have to get some present in the mail

Miniature Christmas village trees - the big one is building a butterfly habitat

Root touch up - heavy duty craft deadlines and cocktail parties are a hard mix timing-wise    

Baby powder - the dad spilled grease on a pair of dress pants

Eggs - we are out

On to the next

No Coast was tons of fun and the very snowy weather did not stop hardly anyone from coming out.  We are currently out of AA batteries, so I couldn't take any pictures.  I am not quite sure how this happened because we have Costco size bulk packages of every other kind of battery.  I have been switching the batteries from the TV remote back and forth to my camera every time I need to take a few pictures.  Next weekend is the Handmaiden's Craftsmas Show with the girls from i like you. 

Today we are off to the St. Olaf Christmas Festival.  You could go to a movie theater simulcast at a theater near you!

Thanks so much to Polka Dot Moms, who are currently featuring a little piece on sheppard girls.  I had a post all ready to go about how my Christmas wrap theme this year is polka dots, but I thought the timing would seem a little weird, so I will wait a day or two.  But I am very excited about the wrapping paper I have found and the little stamp from Paper Source.  My sister emailed me to say that she is loving her Christmas card palette for this year.  Dude, I can totally relate.
