We have been without house numbers for at least two years. I am not sure why we took them down in the first place, probably because I didn't like them. We have to tell everyone who comes over that there are no house numbers and we had a drier fire during this time as well, so had to tell the fire department that I would meet them in the driveway, so they knew which house it was. In my defense, the house is cedar and the wood faded where the house numbers used to be, so you could technically still see something.
Getting new house numbers has been on my to do list forever. I found custom house numbers here. Any font, any size! I was so excited until I finally got the price back. $327. Oops. Hello Lowe's online ordering.
In a recent Martha Stewart magazine, they showed stenciled house numbers on pots near the front door. Totally adorable. Totally doable. Except that I decided to do it without stencil paper, or the proper paint.
I trace the metal numbers onto freezer paper, which I thought would be adhesive. It is not. So I cut out the numbers and traced them onto my vintage blue metal box we have on the front steps.
Since I couldn't use the spray paint I had planned to use, and the house trim paint looked a little suspicious when I opened the can, and the Martha Stewart samples I got at Home Depot, which seem amazing and I am very excited about, said interior
I decided to use a brush with the spray paint.
